Emotional Freedom Technique

Hello Happy Mamas!

I just finished reading a really great book about a topic that I first heard about a year or two ago, and wanted to let you know about it.

It didn't catch my eye until recently.  I started seeing more and more of the wellness pros that I follow online talking about it, so I decided to poke around and do some research.

If you're not familiar with the Emotional Freedom Technique, or Tapping, you may want to head over to Nick Ortner's website and watch a few of his videos. He also produced a documentary, and wrote the book that I just finished, The Tapping Solution. You can also sign up for his informative newsletter.

EFT is a combination of ancient Chinese accupressure and Western psychology. You identify a physical or emotional issue you're experiencing and tap along certain points on your body to clear the stuck energy in your body. You then change your take on things.

Nick explains it so much better, so again, I encourage you to go and check out his website:

www.thetappingsolution.com

The book explains everything very thoroughly and goes through a TON of success stories.

If you're having any issues in your life, and nothing has worked for you to clear or fix them, this could help you. Anyone can do it, you don't need a professional, and the results are typically pretty immediate.

I've had some pretty great results myself and I now consider tapping a great tool in my wellness toolbox.

Also, if you're interested in the Law of Attraction, I've heard tapping referred to as step #1 in manifesting all sorts of awesomeness for yourself.

I would love to hear your take on all of this....let me know if you read the book-I'd love to discuss it! Leave a comment below, and until next time, have a fantastic day!

Kids Won't Eat Their Veggies? Here Are My Top 5 Tips...

Hello Happy Mamas!

Struggling to get the kiddos to eat some more nutrient dense veggies?

No problemo-I've got you covered.

My kids are generally pretty good. Well, two out of three downright LOVE veggies. The third-not so much. He'd rather have pizza and steak every night. For his health coaching mama, that's no bueno, so for the times when he's particularly resistant, I do have a few tricks up my sleeve. And if they help you, too-fantastic!

So, here are my top 5 tips for getting your kids to eat their veggies....

#1 Get a lil' Sneaky

When you're making something like a soup, stew, marinara sauce, meatloaf, or muffins, sneak a little goodness right in.

Shred some carrots (great for all of the above), chop some spinach or kale, or any other veggie you'd like your little ones to get the benefits from. It's incredibly easy to do, and they'll hardly notice that their meal just got super charged with nutrients.

#2 Make It Pretty

The more colorful a vegetable, the more nutrient dense it is. And kids love color, right? So use this to your advantage and create a bright and colorful plant-based stir fry or salad. You can also saute some brightly colored peppers, broccoli and yellow squash with some olive oil (or coconut oil, my new favorite-it's better for high heat cooking) and garlic, then toss it with some purple, yellow and green pasta. You can find pasta that's been dyed with natural colorings such as beet juice at health food stores. How much fun is that?

#3 Channel Your Inner Picasso

Get creative with your food! Design amazingly fun monster faces, sailboats, stars, holiday themed plates or whatever your mini me's get excited about with pepper strips, cherry tomatoes, broccoli...whatever you want to use. Pinterest has some great pics if you're in need of some visual inspiration.
And to really have fun with this tip, combine it with #4...

#4 Recruit Your Little Chefs

This can be a lot of fun for everyone. Start right at the beginning of meal planning and let them browse your cookbooks or go online and find veggie filled recipes that they'd like to help make.  Getting the kids involved makes them feel valued and important plus they'll be much more interested in eating a healthy meal that they planned themselves. Take it even further and let them help you make it. Imagine the proud little smiles they'll have as they announce that dinner is ready. :)

#5 Break Out the Blender

Make some smoothies! These are fantastic for breakfast, a snack or dessert, even. Yes, I am telling you that you can turn veggies like kale, carrots and celery into a sweet post dinner treat. It's super easy to do and you'll feel great giving your kids a much healthier alternative to milkshakes. Throw some greens of choice in, some chopped apples (be sure to remove the seeds), some strawberries, a banana (or avocado) to make is smooth, sprinkle some cinnamon and top with some water or coconut water and blend away. Experiment with different ingredients to find what your family really likes. Also, check out recipes online-they're everywhere-for more ideas.

Well, these are my favorite tips for getting my kids to eat more veggies.

Are You a Perfection Junkie?

Hello Happy Mamas!

My newsletter this week is all about easing up on yourself while in search of the ever elusive title of perfection (head over to www.ifmamaainthappy.net to sign up!). I wanted to touch on that topic a bit here first...

Perfection doesn't exist, and that's ok. That's more than ok. How absolutely stressful is it when nothing is ever good enough and you're constantly striving for that crystal clear shiny picture of idealism?

And, perfection is boring. Or, the idea of it.

Life is meant to be messy, beautiful and real.

I would love a perfectly clean house. But, it isn't going to happen. Not while my 3 mini-me's are growing up. And I don't want to put that kind of pressure on them. No way. I don't want to create nervous little people that never feel good enough.

Everyone has chores, every day, and we all contribute in a positive way. The house is usually tidy by bedtime. The dishes have been put away and the garbage has been taken out. Toys are picked up and laundry goes into the hamper. That's clean enough for a house with an 8 year old, a 5 year old and an almost 3 year old.

I would also love to be the perfect mom. To always have gorgeous hair, flawless makeup and a cute but practical outfit on, complete with sparkly accessories. To never lose my patience, to always have time for a cuddle and a story and to be the master of cupcake makers (and have multiple dozens ready to go for every single classroom party and bake sale fundraiser).

But I am so far from that. It actually makes me laugh a little to think about how far from being a perfect mom I am.

But I'm happy about that, and feel good about where I am. I have more time for the truly important things. Like helping with homework and teaching my kids about eating healthy foods and how to handle stressful situations in a productive and loving way.

My babies are happy, healthy and very much loved. And you can tell by the way they act. By the way they carry themselves. They're encouraged to be exactly who they are and to believe in themselves. They're fun to be around and have such an amazing capacity for kindness and compassion towards others.

So I say-throw away your ideas of perfection! Allow yourself to live and be fully immersed in your crazy and imperfect life. You'll never be perfect anyway, so why waste your precious time?

Hello there, Happy Mamas!
Thank you so much for checking out my blog. Like what you see? Connect with me at www.ifmamaainthappy.net to sign up for newsletters and updates or to schedule a life changing, eye opening free consultation.

Now, on to the topic of the day....

So, the new year is in full swing....how are you doing?

I am truly rocking my January Vegan and Sugar-Free Challenge. I feel amazing-energetic, calm, patient, balanced, centered.....and I've lost a bit of weight-bonus!

I've been experimenting with lots of vegan recipes, and let me tell you-they're really delicious. I love cooking, and this has been a lot of fun for me. My favorite dish so far has been this amazing African stew with chickpeas, green olives, tomatoes, carrots, onions, garlic, cinnamon, turmeric, coriander and curry. I'm drooling just thinking about it....my house smelled soooo good while that was simmering away on the stove. I'm going to have to make it again soon, lol. I also can't stop thinking about the black bean and sweet potato burgers with greens and tomato slices piled high and topped with a spicy veganaise. They were pretty amazing, too.

Luckily, my family has been on board and they're enjoying these super healthy and super tasty meals right along with me. I know that family support, or lack thereof can get in the way of succeeding with your new-found health goals, so I'm definitely grateful for their enthusiasm.

I've been drinking green smoothies everyday, too. My kids actually ask for them. I was the lucky recipient of a NutriBullet for Christmas (yay David Wolfe!) and I've been using the heck out of it.

As far as the sugar goes, I was catching myself running out to the kitchen more often than I'd like to admit, in search for anything sweet and sugary.

I don't like being that preoccupied with something, especially if that something isn't so great for me.

That's been a little harder than going from vegetarian to vegan. I'm just now getting to the point where I'm not craving it. But, even today, I had that little sugar junkie voice inside telling me to find some chocolate. I told it to get lost, and in a matter of just a few minutes, I'm happy to report that it did.

I'll keep you posted on my sugar recovery and animal free way of eating...as of right now, so far so good, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep rocking this right through February 1.

Until next time,

~Cozetta
